“I'm so proud of our industry for demonstrating by our actions, our confidence in travel and group meetings.” Said Tony Capuano as we caught up with him after his session at IHIF2021.
Capuano added that he felt very optimistic to be able to see so many people in person, safely following protocols and conducting business in person, in the lobby, on a coffee break, the spontaneity of those meetings is what business has missed the most.
“Bill Marriott, our chairman, my mentor, one of his favourite phrases is: success is never final. And I think that's never been more relevant than facing a crisis like this.”
Capuano spoke about how his business and the industry still have lots of heavy lifting to do to navigate this crisis.
“I would say there are a few trends we've seen emerge that we expect to endure well beyond the end of the pandemic. One would be the adoption of some of the technology that, interestingly, was already in place pre pandemic. Secondly, I would probably say blending of trip purpose. I think increasingly folks will combine trips and that blending of trip purpose, I think, is enormously valuable for our business going forward.”
