Leases and agreements: balancing risk and reward

Hotel management agreements: are we seeing an evolution in performance clauses and hurdles?

This week Alexi Khajavi sat down with Karen Friebe of Bird & Bird to discuss hotel management agreements as well as WiH's first global, industry-wide survey which addresses gender representation in the industry.

Not to be missed!

"There are good deals and there are bad deals and its a balance of risk and reward." In terms of transparency within the agreement, owners need to be very careful they know what is going on within their own operations and the role of the asset manager is key.

What happens if an asset goes to market with an empty FF&E reserve?

"There are deals being done because a lot of leases are under water right now, but what happens if a landlord forfeits the lease? Who will take that asset?"

"We started out with 20 women at our first breakfast at IHIF a number of years ago and in 2019 we had 120 women turn up with 20 more knocking on the door" said Friebe. Hence the launch of WiH Global. It is both inspiring and exciting to be witnessing this change but there is more we can all do. Please share your views on women's representation in the hospitality industry.
