Microsoft and Oyo form strategic tech alliance

Technology giant Microsoft and hotel platform Oyo Hotels and Homes have entered into a multi-year strategic alliance to co-develop next-gen travel and hospitality products and technologies.

The agreement follows Microsoft’s investment of $5 million in the Indian startup earlier this year. As part of the deal, Oyo will adopt Microsoft Azure, the company’s cloud computing service.

“This alliance with Microsoft will accelerate the deployment of our products in the hands of small businesses we work with, allowing us to create even more impact through an integrated technology ecosystem available on the cloud for businesses in the remotest corners of the world,” Abhinav Sinha, global COO and chief product officer at Oyo, said.

“For our guests, this alliance will mean more personalization, better choices, differentiated experiences and an improved guest experience in the future. Microsoft’s commitment is further strengthened by the equity investment in the company.”

Oyo is also intending to develop smart room experiences for travellers such as premium and customized in-room experiences, including self-check-in, smart locks and virtual assistance using Microsoft Azure Internet of Things.
