Starwood Capital buys another Danish hotel

Starwood Capital has bought the Comfort Hotel Vesterbro in Copenhagen from Norwegian-owned real estate company Strawberry Forever for an undisclosed sum.

The hotel consists of 399 guest rooms and is located in the centre of Copenhagen.

Starwood Capital will acquire the property into Starwood Real Estate Income Trust, Inc, becoming the first European leased hotel investment for entity.

As part of the agreement, Strawberry Hospitality Group will continue to operate the Comfort Hotel Vesterbro under a long-term lease agreement.

Petter Stordalen, owner of Strawberry Group and founder of Nordic Choice Hotels, said: “This agreement marks the further development of the collaboration between Strawberry and Starwood Capital, the world's leading hotel investor.”

The deal follows Starwood’s acquisition of the Skt. Petri hotel, also in Copenhagen from Strawberry Forever earlier this year.

Timothy Abram, senior vice president at Starwood Capital, said: “We are delighted to have completed a second transaction in Copenhagen as part of our ongoing partnership with Strawberry. This transaction also represents the first European leased hotel investment of SREIT, for which our goal is to make additional European leased hotel investments in the future.”
