Venice postpones tourist tax

The authorities in Venice have decided to postpone the planned tourist tax from 1 June to 1 July 2021.

Mayor Luigi Brugnaro said that introducing the fee now would be “ill-timed”.

The tax would see day visitors paying between €3 and €10 for entry to the city. Overnight visitors were exempt as they pay a separate hotel tax.

The mayor told La Reppublica that tourism was currently at zero and “it will take at least a year to get back on track”.
