Alexi Khajavi & Katherine Doggrell discuss the deals and bargains out there for investors. "This is the hotel sector, a mature asset class....you can bank on it so long as you take a long term view."  The surge of optimism following news of a vaccine may lead to a wall of assets on the market and while "there is still time to pick up a bargain" for investors, sellers need to get in there now to make a deal. Other discussions include Pandox Hotel Market Day, the latest tech from NH Hotel Group, Brands and loyalty programmes, and a throwback to timeshares...Will we see a comeback?  Don't miss guest Tom Oakden's episode in discussion with Katherine Doggrell and find out what he means about "certainty of sale".  Don't miss out, sign up to get daily insights that power the deal. This week on In Focus Alexi & Katherine are back to talk about transactions. What does March hold for the transactions market? As sellers refuse to sell for the price buyers want and buyers refuse to pay the price the sellers want. Sellers seem to be able to hold off due to the financial support from the Government and banks right now but what will be the icebreaker in this standoff? Join us this week for all the latest news and development in the hospitality industry with Alexi Khajavi, Katherine Doggrell and this week's guest Tom Oakden of Hilltop Hospitality Advisors.  In discussion with Katherine, Tom explains "if sellers don't sell now, there will be a wall of assets on the market" and buyers will see a wall of capital competing their capital....What we need to see are deals which will lead to pricing discovery with transactions beginning to happen at prices both parties are comfortable with and that "certainty of sale" will emerge. Is it better to be the first or last to the party? As the market piles up, now is the time to consider the value of your assets. Alexi & Katherine discuss the deals and bargains out there for investors. "This is the hotel sector, a mature asset class....you can bank on it so long as you take a long term view."  And of course, the latest opinions on Airbnb developments and news as Tom, Alexi and Katherine take a historic look at the company and how they have adapted and developed as a brand and why disruptors are so important for the growth of any sector. Editor in Chief Katherine Doggrell and Content Director Julie Rey-Gore focus on the Greek market this week with a brief overview of the roundtable hosted by Enterprise Greece earlier this week: Investing in Greek Hospitality Real Estate. How has the Greek market become such a strong contender for investors such as AMResorts in the midst of a pandemic? We finally get to take a look at the Airbnb IPO, as Katherine and Julie predict what may be next for the group. Are they going to move to hotels and just how worried should hotels be if this develops? Not to be missed! Don't miss the full interview with Dimittris Manikis.

This week's guest for our In Focus series is Dimitris Manikis, President EMEA Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, who tells Katherine how Wyndham have navigated the storm this year with evidence of rebounding.  "It's all about retain, develop, serve: retain your customer base, develop your hotels and serve your customers." Katherine asks how targets have changed since the pandemic and what types of locations and types of properties they are now looking at. Wyndham have seen strong results from their loyalty programme and the newly launched Wyndham Direct, targeting corporate travellers from small organisations and he predicts that while luxury will remain an important investment, economy is going to be big in the years to come.  An interesting point Dimitris makes, is how he sees destinations competing for the same traveller and remains optimistic for the future of travel and hospitality.  You can watch the latest In Focus episodes here.

Katherine interviews John Falik, Founder & CEO of JP Capital Advisors this week on In Focus. JF Capital Advisors specialises in the hospitality industry and provides clients and partners a broad range of strategic and capital market solutions. Jonathan leads the firm's hospitality business, which includes equity and debt placement, asset acquisitions and dispositions, portfolio transactions, JV structuring, asset management, management company and brand evaluation, and strategic and capital markets advisory services. Katherine and Jonathan compare luxury and budget investment opportunities, and how the market looks for both short and long term investment, "long term investors are very excited by where we are in the cycle".  While its easier to get funding for Budget hotels at the moment, there will always be demand for high end luxury hotels as they are seen as a more attractive asset in the long term.  And Katherine asks is now the time we will see an equitable relationship between the brands and investors? Lean in for a fascinating discussion on investment.
