Deutsche Hospitality to open 283-room IntercityHotel in Rotterdam

Deutsche Hospitality has inked a deal for a new IntercityHotel in Rotterdam-Schiedam, together with the joint venture between Dutch project development company De Veste Schiedam and Necron.

Located at Noorderweg 1, 3199 Schiedam, in a new 18-storey building, the new hotel will comprise 283 rooms including 20 long-stay units as well as a conference area.

Deutsche Hospitality says it will be the first IntercityHotel representing the brand's "Next Gen" concept and is aimed at travellers who are always on the move.

Deutsche Hospitality already operates four hotels in the Netherlands, of which two are IntercityHotels. Two more IntercityHotels are currently under construction in Breda and Leiden; the brand is also present in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary as well as in the Middle East.

Why it matters

Research published by JLL last month found that visitor numbers in key cities in the Netherlands – Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Rotterdam – exceeded 2019 levels, also forecasting a promising future both in terms of increased investor interest and tourism interest. As such, Deutsche Hospitality’s recent activity in Rotterdam tracks, joining Hilton which opened the first Motto by Hilton hotel in Rotterdam late last year.
