IHG adds ten new voco hotels to portfolio

IHG has added ten new voco hotels across Europe, taking the number of voco hotels opened in the continent to 37, up from 28 at the end of 2022.

New signings include 120-room voco Belfast which will open in early 2024 in partnership with Cliste Hospitality, 87-key voco Letchworth Hall in the Herfordshire countryside which will open 2024, 142-key voco Zeal Exeter Science Park due to open in 2025, and 166-key voco Granada Spain which will open in late 2025.

Recent openings include 92-room voco Brussels City North, 141-room voco Vienna Prater, voco Lythe Hill Hotel & Spa, 197-room voco Madrid Retiro and 264-room voco Paris - Porte de Clichy.

voco Algarve Formosa Park, which comprises 61 suites, restaurant, bar, two golf courses and an outdoor pool, will open by the end of 2023.

Why it matters

IHG has continued to grow its brands at a rapid pace, and the newly-added hotels will bring the voco brand – launched in 2018 and now boasting over 100 properties worldwide - closer to its ambition of reaching 200 properties in leading urban and leisure locations by 2028. As other hotel companies also continue to grow their brands at an equally rapid pace, the question remains “how many brands are too many?” Is this flurry of new brands a positive which provides a lot of choice and captures even more consumers or will it lead to confusion and choice paralysis? It seems only time will tell.

What they said

Mrs Willemijn Geels, VP development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts said: “Each voco hotels property that gets added to our portfolio is a real sign of the confidence from our owners across multiple markets in the brand. voco hotels proves popular due to its design and operational framework conducive to conversion, empowering owners to carry through their own unique visions for their property. Guests enjoy the individual character and local charm of each hotel, and the speed at which the brand is growing in these popular markets is great proof of its successful formula.”
