Wyndham franchisees raise concerns about potential Choice deal

Members of a US hotel owners association have raised concerns about Choice Hotel International’s attempts to take over rival Wyndham Hotels & Resorts.

A survey cited by Reuters of members of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) found that 80 per cent of around 1,000 respondents believed that a combination would hurt their business, while 60 per cent said they would terminate their contract if a merger were to take place.

"When you sign a 20-year franchise agreement, you are anticipating that you're going to be with this brand for the next 20 years and if you're unhappy with the brand or a merger like this occurs, you cannot just change your mind," Laura Lee Blake, chief executive of the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), told Reuters.
