Extendam teams with Atalante Hotels to buy two hotels in Belgium

Extendam and Atalante Hotels have teamed up for the acquisition of the Novotel Mechelen Centrum and the Ibis Namur Centre in Belgium.

Located in the heart of the Mechelen city center and 10 minutes from the train station, the Novotel Mechelen Centrum comprises 122 rooms. The Ibis Namur, located in the centre Namur - capital of Walloon region – comprises 92 rooms.

The Novotel will undergo a renovation of common areas as well as works to improve its energy performance while the ibis will undergo a more intensive refurbishment programme, re-opening under the new ibis rouge brand.

Atalante will be responsible for the operation of both assets.

Cushman & Wakefield advised the vendors on the deal.

Why it matters

Extendam’s acquisition of both assets as well as its partnership with Atalante – which has a Belgian portfolio of seven hotels representing 650 rooms - indicates its interest in further expanding its presence in the Benelux region, particularly in Belgium where The Hoxton (part of the Ennismore portfolio) debuted in June.

What they said

Jean-Marc Palhon, president of Extendam said: “We are very happy to begin our collaboration with Atalante Hotels. We will benefit from our new partner-operator’s excellent knowledge of the Belgian market as well as their environmental and societal commitment in the repositioning of these two assets.”

Georges Meurisse, president of Atalante Hotels added: “The acquisition of these two hotels reinforces our already strong presence in the Belgian market. We are very happy with this new partnership with Extendam with whom we share convictions on the Benelux market as well as strong values.”
